Settings & quality
Understand Basic and Advanced controls, saved options, and a practical way to tune your setup.
Start with Medium
The bundled pack uses Medium defaults. Open Video Settings → Shaders → Pack Settings to adjust the selected pack. Options belong to the pack: an external pack may expose a different set of controls.
Basic and Advanced
Basic groups recognized effect controls into a simpler quality list. The bundled pack offers Off, Low, Medium, High, and Ultra levels where applicable, plus an On/Off switch for enhanced water.
Advanced exposes detailed option choices, including cloud and shadow quality, reflection settings, and color treatment. Water-dependent settings become editable when enhanced water is enabled; their values are preserved while it is off.
Apply, cancel, and reset
Changes are drafts until you press Apply. Switching tabs, resizing the window, and paging through settings retain that draft.
- Apply compiles the candidate configuration before replacing the active one.
- Cancel discards unapplied changes.
- Reset defaults returns the draft to the pack’s declared defaults; Apply to use them.
If candidate compilation fails, the existing generation stays active. Check logs/latest.log for the reason.
Tune one thing at a time
- Test in the same world, view, and resolution.
- Lower shadow quality or distance first when shadows are expensive.
- Lower cloud quality and reflection quality when those effects cost too much.
- Reduce the viewport resolution if high-resolution intermediates exceed your GPU’s resources.
- Compare with shaders disabled to understand the base rendering cost.
There is no universal FPS promise: hardware, drivers, scene complexity, resolution, and other mods all affect the result.
Where settings live
Global enabled state and pack selection are separate from per-pack options. Per-pack overrides live under the instance’s config/sulkan-packs/ directory.
Keep a backup before manually editing configuration. For ordinary changes, use the in-game interface.
